Chemistry and Art:
In our chemistry class we where assigned to do a project called the Chromatic Chemistry project. The class chose different concept of chemistry, that we wanted to pro-sue, and turn them into art installations. My group and I decided to create our project based on Borax Crystallization. We wrote a research paper based on how and why we chose the topic. In our paper we explained the chemical reaction and process of creating borax crystals in a simple way that anyone can fallow.
Over all this project was an amazing experience and extremely fun to cultivate into what it became. The combination of chemistry and art turned this whole process of creating into a new and informative learning experience. If I where to do this project again though, I would have delighted more time to our group crystallizing more inanimate objects to exhibit. Though this project was such a fun experience it did come with its own challenges. The toughest challenge that our group faced during this project was delegating tasks. I think that we worked well together but we didn't have enough jobs for people to do to keep busy during the project. If I where to redo our project I would make tasks that each of us have to do to create the best over all project for our exhibition. Over all I cant express how much fun and interesting this project was. Learning everything to create borax crystals and doing the process created the best learning experience for me.
The Chemistry Food Experiment:
For our last project of the year in chemistry we had to create a food experiment that demonstrated our ability to curate and enact an experiment that we had designed based around the food we decided to make. During this experiment I learned a lot about how to craft a project that relied on every detail to be process and recorded in a way that I could extract the information to wright a report. Having such a hands on learning style during this project really connected with me in the way that I got to make all the decisions to create my own project and my own style of report. An example of this was when we first started the experiment. I had decided to create my project based on a recipe that I had loved when I was a kid and expand on how I wanted it to taste. The freedom to create your own recipe and experiment with how it would turn out was such a fun task in the beginning of the project. This made me feel as though I was a scantiest and aloud me to wonder with boundless creative urges and thinking. Allowing me to wonder more about the world through the lens of chemistry.
